Strategy and MetaPlanet could lose their spot in MSCI’s global indexes
MSCI is revisiting what qualifies for inclusion in its global investable market indexes, with a proposed methodology that screens out non-operating companies, meaning those whose value comes mainly from accumulating assets rather than running a conventional business. Notably, the rule makes no reference to crypto at all. The simulation flagged three existing constituents for deletion, Strategy, MetaPlanet, and UK uranium holder Yellow Cake, which is the clearest evidence that the screen is about corporate structure rather than digital assets. It’s also familiar territory, since MSCI floated a crypto-specific version months ago before shelving it. This remains a consultation rather than a decision.
