Utah charges Kalshi’s founders with 13 felonies, the second state to go criminal as the fight over prediction markets escalates
Utah files 14 criminal charges against Kalshi and its founders. Says the site breaks the state’s gambling laws. Felony charges against the founders of the company for offering Kalshi in Utah. 12 counts allege online gambling promotion, third degree felonies. The case contains 14 total counts and specifically named CEO Tarek Mansour and COO Luana Lopes Lara. These people created a platform, it’s wildly popular, and they’re just caught up in a massive battle between the states and the federal government. There’s no way these people get charged for felonies because their platform is operating in Utah, which also apparently is a real place.
