With anticipated PC shooter Xociety one of the initial games announced to hit Sui’s forthcoming SuiPlay0X1, Mysten Labs has now confirmed another game coming to its handheld gaming device.
Mobile MMORPG Shodown Samurai R – initially launched in 1993 by SNK and relaunched in 2019 – is now being rebooted to find market fit within Sui’s growing gaming ecosystem.
Developed by IP-centered blockchain ecosystem LumiWave and Korean studio OnBuff, with involvement from SNK, the game will feature dynamic NFTs that change based on player progression.
Powered by Mysten’s Sui blockchain, players will be able to customize their characters in terms of job and skills, interact with each other, participate in events, and trade their in-game assets.
Expected to ship sometime in 2025, the SuiPlay0X1 portable is still in a pre-sale phase, and available to pre-order for $599.
Mysten Labs head of gaming partnerships and investments Anthony Palma commented, “The launch of Samurai Shodown R on the SuiPlay0X1 exemplifies how web3 gaming can offer compelling, player-driven experiences without the traditional barriers of entry like wallets or gas fees. With Sui’s unique infrastructure, LumiWave is able to deliver a truly seamless web3 experience, where features like evolving NFTs and in-game asset ownership are not just concepts but fully realized.”
LumiWave CTO added Hanho Seo added, “We’re incredibly excited to bring an iconic game like Samurai Shodown R to the SuiPlay0X1.”
“The combination of SSR’s dynamic gameplay and Sui’s cutting-edge blockchain technology allows us to unlock an entirely new level of player engagement and ownership. With features like evolving NFTs and true ownership of in-game assets, Samurai Shodown R will deliver a truly immersive and player-driven experience.”
