One of crypto’s oldest pieces of FUD just got put to rest
For over a decade, the question of whether Tether actually held the assets backing USDT has been the industry’s most persistent line of attack, sustaining entire online identities built around doubting it. KPMG has now completed the long-promised audit, issuing an unqualified opinion on the 2025 financial statements. What separates this from the quarterly attestations Tether has published for years is depth, auditors tested transactions, systems and holdings rather than checking a balance at a point in time. That extended to physically inspecting every individual gold bar Tether owns rather than relying on custodian reports. Worth noting the statements cover year-end 2025 and haven’t been published in full.
