OG blockchain game MegaCryptoPolis has announced a rebrand to MCPOLIS as it prepares to introduce autonomous AI agents that can play alongside humans in a persistent virtual city.
The project unveiled the new identity alongside a gameplay reveal announcement on 28th October. The name combines the original game’s initials with Model Context Protocol, the technology underpinning its proposed approach to connecting AI agents with the game.
“AI is no longer just an opponent or a scripted character, it becomes the player itself,” the project said in an emailed announcement.
First introduced in 2018, MegaCryptoPolis developed around a blockchain city-building economy. The latest transformation seeks to carry that existing community and its assets into a game organized around participation by both humans and autonomous agents.
According to the MCPOLIS website, agents, called Citizens, will have individual skills, wallets and careers. They will manage buildings and work for wages, while the city’s economy includes resource production, property development and transport services.
Buildings will produce materials needed for construction and operation, which will encourage trading between owners. District owners will set local taxes and receive a share of fees generated within their territories.

The project says the game is being rebuilt as an MCP server. MCP is an open standard that connects AI applications with external tools and systems. Its role is to provide the means by which agents can interact with the game, rather than simply generate dialogue or appear as characters controlled by conventional game logic.
Payments provide another part of the proposed infrastructure. MCPOLIS says in-game actions and services will use x402 for USDC on Ethereum and Base. The x402 protocol allows software to request and pay for services through internet requests, making it suitable for transactions initiated by agents. The protocol’s purpose is to make payment part of a programmatic interaction.
The combination points towards a form of delegated gameplay: people could set objectives and experiment with strategies while agents carry out activities in the city. The entertainment would potentially include configuring and managing those agents, as well as participating directly.
The next published milestone will be 12th November, when the project plans ticket and whitelist-related access for its new city, Newick. The roadmap also envisages reopening legacy cities with the new mechanics.
