You’re not hearing quantum as a threat anymore
Dave on the research and the Bitcoin proposals that took quantum off the table. There’s a very well regarded paper out there which calls into question whether quantum will ever, literally ever, be able to break Shor’s algorithm. And frankly we’re not talking about the next two years, we’re talking about ever. I’m not saying they’re right or wrong, I’m nowhere near capable of understanding the math involved, but if you look at it, it looks pretty compelling. Anybody who’s done anything in computers understands the 80-20 rule, or sometimes the 95-5 rule, which is that the last 20% takes 80% of the effort. It gets exponentially harder as you get towards that, and this is putting a squash on quantum. At the same time, we’ve had not one but two, and probably more, proposals inside the Bitcoin community to make the signatures quantum resistant.
A lot of capital was sidelined institutionally from that.
