X has begun sending US users from financial conversations on its timeline directly to a brokerage. Tapping a supported cashtag such as $BTC or $TSLA now surfaces the asset’s live price chart and related posts alongside a “Trade” option that hands the user off to a partner platform.
The company announced the Cashtag Partner Program on Sept. 15 with five launch partners: Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase. The feature is now live. Users who tap Trade are taken to the partner’s app or website, where they log in or open an account and complete the order there. X does not place, settle or custody anything. “Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself,” said Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead.
By routing rather than executing, X captures the trading intent that already flows through its finance and crypto conversation without taking on the regulatory weight of being a broker-dealer. For the exchanges, the payoff is distribution at the exact moment a user decides they want exposure, on the platform where a single post from a prominent account can shift liquidity across venues within minutes.
Coverage of the partner routes varies. Gemini said its connection covers stocks plus five named tokens: ZEC, HYPE, BTC, ETH and SOL. Kraken said US users can tap any crypto cashtag and be sent to Kraken. Interactive Brokers and Moomoo anchor the equities side, so the program is not crypto-only. X has not published a full list of supported tickers.
The feature builds on groundwork laid earlier this year. X upgraded cashtags into interactive pages with live charts and real-time data in April, a project then-head of product Nikita Bier said would eventually include links letting users trade without leaving the app. It also fits the broader financial build-out Musk has pursued since acquiring the platform, including money transmitter licenses across multiple US states and the X Money payments product. A version of this idea has been tried before: Twitter partnered with eToro in April 2023 to route cashtag users to an external trading platform.
